It’s a very specific case, as are all center bike lanes. I don’t know the designer’s intention with it, although I do know the two people who designed it.
I don’t like it because it sends a message to bicyclists that there’s only one way to go at...
A brief video about Samsung’s Galaxy S II (the sequel?) showing a very, very clever interaction model: move the phone closer to your face and it zooms :-)
Civic Data Firms
Here is small list of civic data firms I encountered at Social Enterprise Conference 2011.
The panel session was titled, “Data-Driven Development: Mining Data for the Social Good.”
DailyData allows users to “effortlessly monitor [user’s] health.” Models visualize collected patterns of user’s behaviors and predict and alert when user’s behavior deviates from the norm. (i.e. cold, influenza, and...
Thank you to everyone who took part in our public speaking video session. It’s a brutally honest look yourself and you all took it on with aplomb!
Please review your section of the video before next week when you present to our guest critics!

Great read about how the smartphone could/should be interacting with the build environment. Which reminds me… we really gotta get our mobile app concepts in order!
This talk shows some great visualizations and uses/manipulations of different data sets. With some tweaking, these could all be used and related to topics in class.

Team Emu work plan...
Hello fellow Emus,
The focus for this week will be split between two camps: the objects related people and the infrastructure/architecture people. This will allow us to efficiently tackle the variety of concepts on different scales of thinking and cater to our existing knowledge base.
For the object people (Jae, Sam, Dave): Work on developing intuitive & informative street objects (traffic...
Almighty Gravity Plan 3/9-16
After talking with George the teams are going to divide the problem up by Prior to the Incident (prevention), During the Incident (curbing compounding problems, emergency response) and After the Incident (geting the site working again). Team Almighty Gravity has been charged with Prior to the Incident (Prevention). This dosen’t really change much. We will still meet Sunday at 4:30 and...
Sigma Cycle Work Plan
The basic gist, is Sigma Cycle will continue to work on the automated reroute (Instant Detour) system. I suggest that we work out the logistics, signage, and process of the system. The second segment of responsibility will be for the live feed Kinect or video system at the intersection itself. Again, logistics, interface, and process for the live feed “Tivo”.
Here is what I propose ...

Hey guys,
Can you ask around, tweet, post on Facebook, to see if you know anyone that’s been personally involved in any sort of traffic incident at this notorious intersection?
I’m trying to organise an interview for the class next week. If you like, they can contact me directly: georgeaye@saic.edu
