SAIC Mentions the class in campus newsletter:Happening at SAIC the Week of 5/16/11
AIADO faculty member George Aye and students in his class “Living in a Smart City” were featured online in Fast Company magazine Friday (5/6), as Aye and his class were the recipients of a $10,000 “Smarter Planet Faculty Innovation Award” from IBM. “What if the smartest solutions to urban problems don’t necessarily lie in computer science departments?” asks writer Greg Lindsay, who continues, “Shouldn’t they be teaching this stuff in architecture and planning departments as well? They are—at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago this semester. The class is the brainchild of George Aye, a professor of design at SAIC, a former IDEO consultant, and the founder of his own Greater Good Studio.” The article goes on to include quotes from SAIC students Karl Williamson, Josiah Ball, and Kristen Campbell Hansen.
